Hi Cybertops Pals,
I found these 2 TOPS handout sheets that I had from a long time ago and thought
I would send them to you. The Chutes and Ladder one was from JoAnn Haw who was
a nutritionist that I went to back in 2003 at the Fitness Center. Oh, Carol
Mystic and myself went to JoAnn together.
I'm going to go to Office Max and make copies of this and will give the program
tomorrow on this. Maybe our leader Linda will talk about the Fall Rally if she
received the paperwork on it. If she does I can always give this program next
Thursday.

The Magic in TOPS is YOU
Each week YOU come to weigh-in expecting that by some miracle the
scale will go down. There is no miracle and there is no magic that
can make that scale go down. The only magic in TOPS is YOU.
YOU are the only one who can control the amount of food put into your
mouth. YOU are the only one who controls the amount of exercise YOU
get that helps YOU lose weight. TOPS is an organization that came
about because four women decided they needed each other's moral
support if they were to lose weight successfully. There are no diets
handed out to members because the human body is so complex that no
one diet serves all. YOU know what YOU eat, YOU know your habits,
YOU know what YOU overindulge in. If YOU do not want to be an
overweight person, NOW is the time for YOU to get yourself under
control. Let the magic in YOU take over. YOU watch what YOU eat.
YOU count the calories on YOUR plate, YOU pass up the sweets, YOU get
out and get some extra exercise. Then one day the magic YOU will be
beautifully slim and YOU will have learned how to control YOUR weight.
TOPS will give YOU moral support, but only YOU can take off those
ugly pounds. Let the magic in YOU take over.

Chutes and Ladders
Let me share a story about the board game Chutes and Ladders. At some points
there are ladders that advance a player by many spaces. At other points there a
chutes that can send the player back many spaces. Making progress up a ladder
can always be interrupted by a chute. However, even the longest fall down a
chute can be remedied by heading back up the board. If you have the skills and
motivation to control eating and continue being physically active you will be
poised to take advantage of the ladders. Weight management, like life, has both
chutes and ladders. Being prepared for this fact is half the battle. The other
half is having the right attitude and behaviors to remain optimistic when
trouble occurs and having the skills in hand to rebound from the lapses. Think
now of the situations that can send you down a chute and plan some prevention
strategies. Think also of the situations that can propel you up a ladder, then
make them happen. Life has its chutes, particularly when working hard to
control your weight. Look ahead for the ladders and, by all means, keep playing
the game.
