COMMITMENT
I have tried to lose (and keep it off) since I was 16 - a very, very, very
long time. I have been committed to TOPS since 1996 (my husband thinks I
should be committed). In that time I have lost (KOPS in 2000 for 4 months
until loss of status), gained a lot (pregnancy in 1997), but mostly have
succeeded in staying the same - not reaching goal.
Gee look at me - aren't I committed! So where is my commitment? Is it in
the fact that I don't miss meetings? That I don't give up? That I love
TOPS and promote it every chance I get? That I don't quit or quit trying?
I agree that is commitment. But I am a fraud, because that is not enough.
Getting to goal and staying at goal takes more than commitment - it takes
conviction.
CONVICTION
What is the difference between commitment and conviction? Conviction is the
action that gets you to goal. It is the belief, deep in your heart, deep in
your soul, that you can succeed. You see success. You see the KOPS yellow
rose, the white dress, the Circle of Light, you feel how your body will feel
and how it acts.you don't let anything get in your way/weigh. You don't see
problems you see answers.
Dissect the word CONVICTION and spell it differently ("CONVICT-SHUN") -
unless you are willing to "shun" the things that prevent you from getting to
goal, you will be a prisoner or CONVICT in the prison of your own making.
You are the jailer, you hold the key to being free - free to live a fully
actualized, authentic life.
Do you have CONVICTION?
MOVING FROM COMMITMENT TO CONVICTION - How do you move from COMMITMENT to
CONVICTION?
Writing down specific goals (e.g., exercise 15 minutes daily)
Keeping focused on them (e.g., rewards)
Figuring out your stumbling blocks (e.g., night-eating)
Knocking down the stumbling blocks (e.g., finding alternatives to
night-eating)
Choosing not to eat something that doesn't fit your plan (e.g., cup of tea
or apple instead?)
So to paraphrase the words of the inaugural speech today (President Obama
didn't know he was talking to TOPS members, did he?): There is work to be
done.Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and
begin again the work of remaking of you.
So find your commitment and conviction.let's start the work!
