Subject: [CyberTOPS] Rejoining CyberTOPS

Hi, I'm Marcy D. and I'm rejoining CyberTOPS after a long absence.

I left TOPS for a while and did Weight Watchers at home. I did pretty
well for a while, but found that I needed the in-person group support
and rejoined my TOPS chapter last July (2008).

I'd, also, had a scare with some heart tests at that time. I was
diagnosed with Diabetes about 3 or 4 years ago. There were changes in
the volume of blood that my heart pumps out in comparison to an
excellent test 7 years prior. My older sister (only 56) has had some
strokes that leave her with dysphasia at times, tiredness and other
symptoms.
Some days she just can't get her words out and it's sad because she
lives in another area. I worry about her, but it also scares me - we're
close in age.

RE: heart tests
There doesn't appear to be heart disease but I have to be really careful
and work on all aspects of health - keeping bp down, glucose down,
keeping good blood sugar control. I'm in a special program at my HMO
where they supervise this closely and work with my doctor. It's a good
program --- very good preventative care.

As far as TOPS -- I've been really floundering since January 09. Gain
/lose / gain, etc. Some of my medications for other health issues can
cause a tendency to gain. Luckily, I don't have problems with sodium :-)

Good news - my Chapter is having a very challenging contest and it is
encouraging me. It started today.

I was without Internet for almost a year and kind of enjoy the free
time, so I may be kind of quiet on the list.

I am interested in any current contests.

BTW: Not to be rude or anything, but I realize that I have to work
hard to keep my spirit up. I've been pretty depressed since my dog
died.

Analysis / unsolicited "pull it together' type of advice doesn't help me
at all. I'm an intelligent adult and pretty well informed on nutrition.
(I tooks several diabetes, weight, and cholesterol classes.)

I realize people want to help, but I just need to keep my head up and
encourage myself more and do what needs to be done.
My mother is 89, feisty, and has the lecture/advice area well covered.
I am very proud of her, however, for losing weight slowly and sensibly
over the past several years. And she's amazingly active and engaged in
life - tutoring, church groups, etc.

Weigh in this Thursday 04/16: gain of 3 lb.
