Hi Dorothy and George

We had a touch of that Hurricane named IKE here too.  Lots of rain and high
winds.  Some power went out and a lot of limbs off trees.  I was sure glad
it hit at night and not in the morning.  I was about 8 years old when
Hurricane Hazel hit and was scared to death cause my daddy was in the
military hospital in Kingston after suffer a heart attack.  I sat on my
grandpa's lap the whole storm and shook.  I can still hear him singing
Golden Slippers" to me to calm me and himself.  I never want to go through
anything like that again.  Hopefully all the people who are without water,
power and other necessities will get help from the rest of the country.  I
say a prayer every night for you guys.

We have had an abnormal amount of rain in the north this year.  Even here in
Ontario the sky does not know how to stop   We had 2 weekends this summer
that
did not have at least one rainy day   Usually our grass tends to brown up a
bit in fact last year we had straw not grass or at least that is the way it
looked  The trees were in distress from lack of rain   This summer the lawns
where the greenest that I remember.  Flowers and veggies grew well,  that is
all except those that did not like to sit in a lot of water   The farmers
did
well on high ground but had low laying fields get washed out.    Sooooo
when
Ike paid a visit it was the icing on the cake   Here where I live it was a
heavy downpour then the winds but the gusts were not over 50 mph.  Before
Ike
got here we had 2 days of very hot humid weather  thought I was back in FL.
Ike was not as bad in my area as Hazel was back in 1954  Now that was a
hurricane that made our record books.  We lost homes and cottages along the
shore of Lake Ontario  I remember my Dad went and helped to sandbag some
areas
to try and protect homes.  We never had another one as severe since.   If
you
want to check out where I am go to Google and look at the western edge of
Lake
Ontario  There is the city of Hamilton that is where I call home   I
actually
have moved out of the city and in live in Puslinch but don't think you will
find that on the map.  Nicer living in the country not as much air pollution
from industry.    Hugs
