I firmly believe food is addictive. A very hard one to overcome. For me it
is only certain foods and I've learned to do without most of the time. I
used to take a package of Oreo's and a cup of tea and eat the whole thing.
Also hot fudge sundae's. I stopped cold turkey but then would crave them.
Meatloaf is another. One bite and I'm gone. I just don't make it anymore.
If I'm having company then I can make it. I've learned to send leftovers
home. My daughter brings dessert for holidays and I make sure she doesn't
leave any here. I believe the hardest thing with food is the fact that
everyone pushes it onto you. You go to a meeting and of course there are
donuts and everyone urging you to have one. I never had a problem with food
until I was married. We didn't have much and when the girls didn't clean
their plates I would. Of course you can't throw it away. It is much easier
now because I'm alone.

I guess the answer to me was knowing what was a trigger food and avoiding
it. Like the alcoholic I have to do this. I went through a period where I
drank when my last daughter left home. I'd go to the bar as it was handy
and I could walk there and then I wasn't alone. After being married to two
alcoholics you'd think I would have learned. After 6 months I realized what
I was doing and moved closer to work and stayed away from the bars. Now I
could care less if I have a drink. I also relized I was addicted to the
alcoholic behavior and was drawn to men that had the problem. I live by
myself and am happy.

My prayers are with those who are struggling with any addiction. It
certainly is a challenged.
