I used Alli for awhile and found it to be a great behavior modification
tool. Because I was worried about the side effects, I closely monitored my
fat intake and had no ill effects. My horrible GERD went away and my bad
cholesterol so improved that my doctor reduced my Lipitor to half strength.
When I went to help my son and daughter-in-law with their new baby in March,
I stopped taking Alli because it was inconvenient to cook for me and for
them (they do not eat a healthy diet and there was no way I was going to
change them). Because I wasn't watching my diet, I did gain some weight
back and my heartburn came back.
I am now back on a low fat diet and, this morning, I scrounged through the
cupboards after reading the posts on Alli and found my old bottle. Took a
capsule this a.m. Since I eat very little fat, I don't need to take more
than two a day.
Alli is a diet aid. You are not going to lose weight just by taking them
(although a percentage of fat is supposed to just pass through your system
without being digested); they are just one part of a healthy weight loss
plan.
I am still waiting for the magic pill but I don't think it is coming in my
lifetime.
